BALLET SUN VALLEY’S 2020 ADAPTIVE DANCE PROGRAM

Program updates to be announced soon. Stay tuned!

PROVIDING TRANSFORMATIVE MOVEMENT EXPERIENCES THROUGH ADAPTIVE DANCE

In partnership with Boston Ballet School and Higher Ground, Ballet Sun Valley will host a three-day Adaptive Dance Program. This year’s Adaptive Dance Program will take place on August 22, 23 & 24, 2020. The program will be led and facilitated by Jamie Brege, Assistant Principal of Boston Ballet School, and Sofie Schreiber, faculty member of the Boston Ballet School. The school is considered a leader in Adaptive Dance both nationally and internationally.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The program is designed for anyone interested in learning more about transformative movement instruction for those with disabilities including dance teachers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and schoolteachers. The skills acquired are transferrable to many real world scenarios in the dance studio, the classroom, summer camp, and the playground.

The science in this field is continually evolving and this year’s program will highlight new and exciting developments regarding the benefits of movement, in particular, dance.  Even if you have attended a past workshop, we encourage you to join us again! Please help us spread the word by sharing with a colleague or friend who might be interested in attending the program.

By expanding teacher resources in the Sun Valley area and beyond, we hope to facilitate an increase in Adaptive Dance class offerings throughout the year.

Two-Day Adaptive Dance Teacher Training Program – August 22nd and 23rd, 2020

The program begins with a Two-Day Teacher Training program which will focus on the methods of teaching Adaptive Dance classes, discussions and lectures on various disabilities, the benefits of movement therapy, class management strategies and recommended class structures.

Adaptive Dance Class Program – August 24th, 2020

The program continues with a day of Adaptive Dance Classes. The newly trained teachers, along with the Boston Ballet School’s Adaptive Dance faculty, will engage in the teaching of movement and dance to students with disabilities, including Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Dyslexia. Students will have the opportunity to explore dance in a safe, open, and inclusive environment.

The focus of this portion of the program is twofold, for the students to develop skills in movement, dance, listening, and creative expression that translate to all areas of their lives.  And second, for the teacher-trainees to develop and practice their new skillset in the studio with students.

Thanks to the generosity of Ballet Sun Valley sponsors, the two-day teacher training and all classes are offered tuition-free! For more information, please contact Robyn Fox by email or call 208.340.6289.
